Industry Leaders to Speak at DFI-EFFC International Conference on Piling & Deep Foundations May 21-23, 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden

The DFI-EFFC International Conference on Deep Foundations & Piling, May 21-23 in Stockholm, Sweden features 23 technical presentations in five sessions: Harmonization of Execution Standards, Bored and Driven Piles, Deep Mixing – Wet and Dry Methods, Walls – In-situ and Preformed, and New Trends in Foundation Practice.

Sessions 1-4 feature keynote lectures by leading industry professionals:

Maurice J. M. Bottiau, deputy general manager, Franki Foundations Belgium, presents Installation Parameters and Pile Performance. The lecture analyzes how systems, equipment and pile production monitoring and testing can influence pile performance, and if/how this influence could be translated in adapted safety factors.

Donald Bruce, Ph.D., D. GE. C. Eng., L.G., L.E.G., president of Geosystems L.P., presents, Deep Mixing in the United States: Milestones in Evolution. The lecture on deep mixing: wet and dry methods traces the development of DMM in the U.S. through major case histories from transportation and dam-related projects.

Roger Frank, ISSMGE President, National School for Bridges and Highways, France, presents The Need for Standardization for Piles (execution, tests, design, etc.), important aspects of Eurocode 7 and the experience gained in France and encompassed in the recent standard for the application of Eurocode 7.

Professor Frits van Tol of Deltares and Eric Halpin, P.E., USACE presents a lecture on New Developments to Improve the Reliability of D-walls. The lecture will provide case histories and lessons learned on in-situ and pre-formed wall projects from the U.S. and Europe.

Session 5 features the tenth John Mitchell Lecture by Dr. Bengt Fellenius, P.Eng., titled Design of Piled Foundations as Reflected in Codes and Standards and the Special Heritage Lecture on Swedish Contributions to Geotechnical Engineering by Stefan Aronsson and K. Rainer Massarsch, Geo Risk & Vibration Scandinavia AB.
