DFI Educational Trust Awards Stanley Merjan Civil Engineering Scholarships
at City College of New York

Four students at City College of New York (CCNY) have received scholarship awards from the DFI Educational Trust Stanley Merjan Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund. 

Chaddy Ismail is a structural civil engineering senior. He is currently a research assistant on a project studying how bridge deterioration affects traffic patterns. After graduating from CCNY, he plans to earn a master’s degree, while preparing for the P.E. exam and working at an engineering company. 

Wen Li is a senior majoring in civil engineering with a concentration in structures. Her interest in deep foundations began last fall when she had the opportunity to visit a subway construction site in China. She is a member of Concrete Canoe Club at CCNY. 

Ariel Mazor is a civil engineering student. He is currently working on research project on extreme events of rain over 115 years. Mazor participates in the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) mentorship program. Prior to starting his academic career, Mazor was an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces. 

Abraham Rubel is a junior civil engineering student specializing in structures. He is currently participating in grant-provided research for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Crest analyzing drought levels to produce predictive models for water deficits for agriculture. Rubel mentors students as part of the National Society for Leadership and Success, and recently joined Chi Epsilon. 

The Stanley Merjan City College of New York Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 and is named for Stanley Merjan, an inspiration and mentor to young engineers throughout the construction industry, and a graduate of CCNY.
