DFI announces the formation of the Project Information Management Systems Committee. This new technical committee was formed in response to a trend in the industry towards digitalization of data and the increase in use of data management and geospatial tools including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Management (BIM).
The committee’s mandate is to collect and track trends in owner specifications, methods and technologies that feature information management applications applied to deep foundation projects. The committee’s initial goals include the authorship of one or more white papers or guidance documents available to DFI members that assist in navigating these trends. The committee will liaise with the BIM/Digitalisation Committee (DFI Europe) to coordinate activities.
The first chair of the new Project Information Management Systems Committee is Massimo Mucci, director of R&D, Bencor Global Inc., a Keller Company. Mucci is a professional IT engineer with a computer science degree focused on networking and cyber security. He has been providing consulting and design services to the geotechnical industry for the past 15 years. His work includes the design of sophisticated computer software and hardware systems such as the entire Ultimate Grouting Control (UGC) family of products used by Bencor for real-time and post-process monitoring activities required for various geotechnical construction services. In addition, he has high-level domain expertise in ICT projects with special emphasis in big data and business intelligence analysis, cybersecurity and requirements analysis matters, along with the design and development of complex multiplatform information systems. Mucci is presenting a Keynote Lecture during the Project Information Management Systems/BIM session at the DFI-EFFC International Conference on Deep Foundations and Ground Improvement in Rome, Thursday June 7, 2018.
