DFI-EFFC International Conference in Rome a Success

More than 400 people from 37 countries attended the DFI-EFFC International Conference on Deep Foundations and Ground Improvement at Sapienza University, June 5-8, 2018.

 The conference explored the challenges of upcoming urban infrastructure megaprojects and highlighted modern technologies and techniques available to overcome these challenges.

The technical program included keynote lectures on deep foundations technologies, design and modeling, ground improvement, project information management systems, and geotechnical and contractual practices. Client representatives discussed upcoming or in-progress megaprojects including Rome Metro Line C, Thames Tideway Tunnel, Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link and the Chennai Metro Rail, as well as invited lectures on Water Infrastructure Challenges in Italy and USACE Mega Challenge—Dams and Levee Rehabilitation Worldwide.

Highlights of the conference included a pre-conference workshop on Safe Working Platforms; a panel discussion on Continuous Flight Auger and Drilled Displacement Piles; a panel discussion on Tremie Concrete for Deep Foundations; an International Panel Discussion on Geotechnical, Contractual and Communication Risk; the DFI John Mitchell Lecture presented by Professor Michele Jamiolkowski on “Geophysics for Geotechnical Design;” and a Young Professionals and Students Mentoring Forum.
