Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust is accepting applications for the 2019 George P. Kelley Memorial Scholarship, which provides scholarships to civil engineering students attending Drexel University. One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded in 2019. The deadline to apply is October 31, 2019.
The George P. Kelley Memorial Scholarship was established in 2019 as part of the Langan Engineering & Environmental Services Legacy Scholarship Fund.
George P. Kelley, P.E., was born and raised in Philadelphia and was a member of the four-person founding team of Langan Engineering & Environmental Services. Since Langan’s funding in 1970, he was a key leader at the firm, who helped grow the company into a large, multinational business with over 1,000 employees. He was a passionate leader within the company, and served as the chairman of the Board of Directors for 10 years. His commitment to Langan employees is underscored every year with the “George P. Kelley Empowerment Award,” which is given annually to an employee who demonstrates leadership results through empowerment. Kelley attended Duke University and earned a BSCE in 1965. After two tours in Vietnam in the United States Naval Construction Battalions (“Seabees”) as a Lieutenant from 1965 to 1967, he pursued a MSCE from Purdue University and graduated in 1968. Kelley passed away on June 18, 2018.
