Michael Sherman, director of policy and research with the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), is presenting the 2020 Hal Hunt Lecture on Communications during the DFI 45th Annual Conference on Deep Foundations, being held live online October 27-30, 2020.
The lecture, on Wednesday, October 28, is titled, “An Overview of the Federal Commemorative Works Process in Washington, DC.”
Sherman leads the NCPC division responsible for conducting and disseminating research on important federal interests in the region, and developing urban planning policies on commemoration, physical security, foreign missions, transportation, sustainability, urban design and city form. His team is also responsible for developing and updating the congressionally mandated federal elements of the Comprehensive Plan and Federal Capital Improvements Program.
Sherman holds a Master in City Planning and a Master of Science in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College and Bachelor of Architecture from Hampton University. He is also a Colonel in the US Army Reserves and has served with the US Army Corps of Engineers in a variety of assignments including managing contract construction projects in Iraq.
The Hal Hunt Lecture was established in 1989 to recognize notable communicators in the deep foundations industry. The lecture was named in honor of Hal W. Hunt, one of the initial organizers of DFI.
