The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust (www.trust.dfi.org), the charitable arm of DFI, recently appointed a new member to the Board of Trustees.
Mark J. Rice was elected to serve as an at-large member for a two-year term ending December 2015. Rice has been a practicing attorney since 1986, and is currently a partner in the firm of McNeil, Silveira, Rice & Wiley in San Rafael, Calif., where he specializes in representing public and private works contractors, designers, suppliers and investment property owners. As a trial attorney, he has represented numerous clients in the deep foundations industry in complex litigations. He is a frequent lecturer on legal topics related to construction management, having presented at many different industry events, including DFI’s SuperPile 2012, where he spoke about the legal risks of pile driving for the construction and engineering industries. Rice has also served as corporate counsel for various nonprofit organizations. He holds two undergraduate degrees from the University of California at Berkeley, and a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, in Sacramento.

The mission of the Trust is to support and encourage individuals in the fields of study related to the deep foundation industry by providing scholarships and opportunities to meet and work with deep foundation industry leaders.
