September 22, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust, the charitable arm of DFI, is accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate civil engineering students for several scholarships being awarded this fall. The applications are all online and are open now. The deadline to apply for all scholarships listed below is October 31, 2023.

August 31, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: Every four years, DFI and the DFI Educational Trust present the Legends Award to three practitioners — an engineer, contractor and manufacturer/supplier — who have made significant contributions and advancements to the research, design, construction, manufacturing and use of deep foundations.

August 16, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: DFI Educational Trust has awarded five Women in Deep Foundations (WiDF) Professional Development Grants of $1,750 each to women working in the deep foundations industry. The recipients are invited to attend DFI’s 48th Annual Conference in Seattle, October 31-November 3. The grant includes complimentary conference registration and covers related expenses for attending the conference.

August 14, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: The DFI Educational Trust awarded $102,000 in scholarships this spring to 32 exceptional students preparing for a career in the civil engineering and construction management fields. More scholarships will be awarded in the fall, thanks to the generosity of many donors and fundraising event participants and sponsors.

July 24, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: John R. Wolosick, P.E., S.E., D.GE, F.ASCE, Life Member ASCE, of Keller North America, is the recipient of DFI’s highest award bestowed to an individual, the Distinguished Service Award (DSA). This award recognizes individuals who have made exceptionally valuable contributions to the advancement of the deep foundations industry.

June 28, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: The winner of the DFI’s 2023 Outstanding Project Award is the Climate Pledge Arena project in Seattle by Thornton Tomasetti. A presentation on the project is being delivered and the award presented at DFI’s 48th Annual Conference on Deep Foundations, October 31 – November 3 in Seattle.

June 27, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust, the charitable arm of DFI, announces the establishment of the M. Byrl and Frances M. Williams Fund. The fund was established with a generous donation of $25,000 from Byrl and Frances Williams.

May 30, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: Jesús Gómez, Ph.D., P.E., D.GE, vice president, GEI Consultants, has been selected as the 2023-2024 Traveling Lecturer. He is available, on request of DFI, to present lectures September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2024. 

May 23, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: Ken Jennings, the greatest Jeopardy! player of all time, Jeopardy! co-host and best-selling author, is presenting the Hal Hunt Lecture on Communications at DFI’s 48th Annual Conference on Deep Foundations, being held October 31–November 3, in Seattle.

May 3, 2023, Hawthorne, N.J.: The program is available for S3: Slopes, Support and Stabilization being held August 8-10 at the Royal Sonesta in Boston.
